Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet Mask

Review – Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet Mask

Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet MaskThe first thing you see when you open the advertisement page for the Lululun Plus Sweet Drop sheet mask is 「とろ~りパワーで愛され肌へ」 (torori pawa- de aisare hada he). “Torori” in Japanese is basically thick or creamy so with the power of this creamy sheet mask, you will be closer to skin that you love! The main ingredient of this mask is Manuka Honey but it also includes Apricot Seed Oil Extract and Avocado. All great ingredients to moisture and protect your skin from drying out.

My Experience

So far, with a total of 2 more to try, the Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet mask is my favorite of the Lululun Plus sheet mask series! It’s just above the Lululun Plus Smooth Gold and Fresh Red Sheet Masks. Upon opening the package I instantly noticed how creamy this mask is compared to the other in the series. It also has minimal amount of smell and I was really excited to try it out. With the cream actually dripping off the sheet mask, I managed to apply it to my face and almost instantly felt the moisturizer seeping into my skin. Considering the weather right now is cold in Japan…. The sheet mask also happened to be a little cold and felt pretty refreshing on top of moisturizing!

Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet MaskAfter about 5 minutes I was expecting to feel some sort of tingling or irritation as with the other Lululun Plus Sheet Mask series but I felt nothing! Surprisingly it really was just like adding an extra powerful moisturizer before sleeping. The Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet Mask felt so good that I didn’t even bother adding extra moisturizer after. I just used the extra amount from the package to cover my neck and was all done for the night, no irritation included! I even had a little encouragement from Doraemon~ while waiting the 10 minutes.

The only bad thing is…. the size is still really big! It always jumbles up at some part of my face. To be honest, I felt this mask to be especially unfit because of the extra creamy moisturizer that it contained. At some points I thought it would slid off my face!

In conclusion, The Lululun Plus Sweet Drop Sheet Mask is a must try if you get the chance to visit Japan. It’s not only moisturizing but very refreshing and feels great on the skin. It’s a great souvenir not only to take home for yourself but also to give away to fellow skin care addicts.

Review – Lululun Plus Lavender Sheet Mask

Lululun Plus Lavender Sheet Mask

Lululun Plus’ Lavender Sheet Mask was next on my list to try. This sheet mask’s lavender scent is basically made to heal your soul (or so their website says…). It is made with Lavender from France that will moisturize your skin while you enjoy the wonderful scent.

My Experience

This is probably my favorite sheet mask from the Lululun Plus Aroma Oil series. The scent isn’t as overwhelming as the other ones and I feel like it definitely made my skin brighter as well! The only thing I really don’t like about the Lavender Sheet Mask, and all the aroma oil series masks, is the fact that it feels like it’s burning my skin. While wearing it I really worry if it will hurt my skin but upon taking it off there is no irritation. Considering the results the others have had I kept it on for the full 10 min but…. it can be a little uncomfortable.

Lululun Plus Lavender Sheet MaskAlso, for some reason the fit of this mask was a little better than the other ones. I’m not sure if it’s because I was able to put it on better or for some reason this one was a little smaller. It still crunched up at the bottom but it felt more comfortable than usual! I’ll apologize for my bad picture hehe.

While I’m not sure if I would use this mask for myself again, I think I would consider buying it for someone who loves aroma oil. It’s relaxing and smells nice and I think most people would really enjoy receiving this as a gift, especially if it’s a souvenir from Japan.

Where to Buy

You can buy these masks from Tokyuu Hands, Loft or Amazon Japan. Most local drug stores (in Japan) also have them available! Unfortunately, they aren’t easily found in the States yet…

Review – Lululun Plus Fresh Red Sheet Mask

Lululun Plus Fresh RedI’m finally half way through the box set of the Lululun Plus Sheet Mask series I bought in December! This time I tried out the Fresh Red Sheet mask and finally I found one I would definitely use again!

The Fresh Red Sheet mask is made with Acerola extract. Acerola is a super fruit that has 17 times more Vitamin C than lemons! And of course, the fruit is made in Japan just like the sheet mask itself! Now it’s not limited to this ingredient but also contains beta-caroteen, acai, and a lot of various vitamins that work great on the skin. For a weekly face mask I think it will definitely save the day (or week).

My Experience

It didn’t cause any irritation and my skin felt surprisingly refreshed after using it. Recently with the winter weather in Japan my skin is especially parched and needs a little extra moisture. The Fresh Red Sheet mask definitely hit it’s mark with that! This mask is also supposed to be effective in making supple skin. As far as what I can tell… one time might not do the trick for me. My skin was definitely softer after the first use but other than the feeling of refreshed and moisturized skin, I didn’t notice any apparent changes in the look.

Lululun Plus Fresh Red Sheet MaskWhen I talk about the size of the Lululun Plus series, I pretty much say the same thing. The Fresh Red Sheet mask and the other sheet masks in the series tend to run a bit big for my face. For the first time, I decided to post a picture using effects from the Snow App (sorry I’m a bit shy). Where I have the most awkward fit tends to be around the chin and eye areas. It definitely doesn’t wrap around my face well and jumbles up at the bottom. As for my eyes (made magically huge with the app picture) the mask is set for wider eyes and possible bigger heads? I have to place it carefully to make sure the moisturizer doesn’t get inside my eyes because it has happened before…

In conclusion, I am planning to buy this mask again and definitely want to give it as a present to my friends and family. I will be sad to part with this mask once I move back to the States.

Weleda Skin Food

Review – Weleda Skin Food

Weleda Skin FoodI randomly received this Weleda Skin Food as a gift and wasn’t sure about the brand. It’s the first time I tried a Weleda product and I was pleasantly surprised with the performance. This lotion is made with pansy, calendula and rosemary extracts. It’s also all natural which is great for anyone who is concerned with artificial ingredients. Another huge plus is it’s made without animal testing! All around the product had me interested after I researched it a bit.

My Experience

This lotion has a very dense texture and to be honest I wasn’t that happy with my first trial. I hated the texture and I am not a fan of the strong citrus smell. BUT after trying it out a few times it really began to grow on me. The fact that you can use this lotion all over your body is great as well. Their manufacturer website says the top uses are:

  • Dry hands, elbows & feet
  • Chapped lips
  • Cuticle care
  • Soothe scratches
  • Highlight cheekbones
  • Soothe skin irritations
  • Treat split ends
  • Brings world peace (just kidding)

Well… Surprisingly for the first 6 items I was extremely happy with the results. It definitely helps with dry skin during the winter (since I started using it my skin is so much better!). I believe it’s a great on the go lotion as well because of it’s versatility, I mean you can even use it as chapstick. I have yet to try the split ends and world peace part but… maybe on my second bottle 🙂

That being said, I’m still not a huge fan of the smell. I’m planning to try a few more products to see if the smell is different but regardless I would definitely buy this lotion again and have already added it to my favs list. I think it’s also a great gift if you’re not sure what to buy someone because it can work for both male and females.

Eat Pretty

Book Review – Eat Pretty: Nutrition for Beauty, Inside and Out

Eat Pretty: Nutrition for Beauty, Inside and Out

by Jolene Hart

Eat Pretty First, I would like to go over the good points of Jolene Hart’s Eat Pretty: Nutrition for Beauty, Inside and Out. This book is an excellent resource for foods and the kinds of nutrition and benefits they provide to our bodies. It also includes the specific seasons where fruits and vegetables are ripest and recipes that will help even the worst of cooks (like myself) easily create nutritious meals.

The book is split into three parts where the first, explaining the important of the book and Hart’s method, can basically be skipped. The second part is more important and explains the points I mentioned above (foods and recipes with their nutrition) while the third goes into how the gut and digestion affect the body as a whole. The third portion especially focuses on how to create a healthy gut with food combinations and fermentation and how to use your diet to balance your hormones. It’s short but has a lot of interesting topics to further explore (outside of the book).

Aside from the fact it’s a good resource… I found the writing to be a little irritating. It does well at making you feel like you’re ugly if you don’t eat according to Hart’s method. If you eat sugar, you’re “un-pretty”, if you drink coffee you’re “un-pretty”, if you don’t sleep you’re “un-pretty”!!! To me it’s not like the food listed in the book are impossible to eat, but it’s very limited and may put more pressure and stress following it then just eating a nutritious diet that is made up from the US Dietary Guidelines. To be honest, I was happy when I finished the book because I didn’t have to feel so bad about eating un-pretty foods!

The book provides a great introduction for anyone that has limited knowledge in nutrition but it’s not the best information to ‘eat pretty’. I would recommend taking a nutrition course or checking a website like choosemyplate.gov where there is an abundance of free information that is very straightforward. If you need that extra self-help toned information then this book can be a little better. But… I would wait until it’s on sale before buying it!

Quotes from the book:

hungry girl
“Lack of sleep also makes it harder for you to make smart decision, so you’re more likely to impulsively grab a candy bar from the vending machine without thinking about the Eat Pretty foods you brought from home. It’s not your fault; your brain made you do it!” p. 187
“An Overload of Beauty Betrayers like sugar, processed foods, and alcohol can diminish the number of dopamine (pleasure) receptors in your brain, so by eating them regularly you’re negatively altering your brain function” p. 196

Review – Biore Perfect Oil

Image from Kao websiteBiore Perfect Oil is one of Biore’s most popular products in Japan. Biore’s parent company is the Japanese company Kao (translated to face). They were founded in 1887 with their original product being facial soap. Over the years the launched many new brands (one of them being Biore) and merged and acquired others. These include brands like Nivea, Jergens and John Freida. Kao as a company has been recognized as one of the world’s top 100 most ethical companies for the past 10 years! Their history is pretty interesting but I don’t want to digress too far.

Biore (in Japan) has a wide range of skin care products offered at very affordable prices. With my experience, these are overall great for sensitive skin and very affordable. In the United States, their line is pretty much limited to pore strips, masks and face washes.

According to their product description Biore Perfect Oil “effectively dissolves and removes stubborn makeup, including waterproof mascara, while lifting away dirt and impurities. Unlike other cleansing oils, it leaves no greasy film on your face and maintains the skin’s natural moisture balance.” Basically all you need to do is apply to face and rinse off with water and you’re good to go!

My Experience

Biore Perfect Oil is great for everyone who does the two step cleanse, especially for removing makeup. In my experience the small amount of makeup I wear is quickly and easily removed and doesn’t cause any irritation to my skin (which is fairly sensitive). Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I still use this oil cleanser as well before my main water based one.

The oil is fairly thin and smells kind of fruity which is relaxing when massaged into your face. After washing Biore Perfect Oil off, my skin doesn’t get oily at all. It washes off really well and leaves your face feeling clean and refreshed. It’s a good start to the 10-step Korean Skin Care routine and it’s very affordable which is a huge plus for me!

Overall, If I can find it easily (like while I’m living in Japan) I would definitely buy it again and again. When in the States, I will probably have to find something else to use but it’s definitely worth bringing back from Japan to keep in my skin care routine.

Where to buy

Luckily you can purchase this product in the states but unluckily it’s pretty expensive compared to the original price in Japan. While the original price is around $10 (1000 yen), when purchased from Amazon it’s about $15 ~ $18 depending on the seller. Considering most oil cleansers in the US are a bit expensive, I would say it’s a good alternative to the luxury brands.
