FAB Purifying Mask with Red Clay

Review – FAB Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay

FAB Purifying Mask with Red ClayOne of my favorite products from FAB is their Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay. It’s a bit messy but definitely works wonders for my skin! FAB products in general are great for my skin and I think it’s pretty neat considering they are such a new skin care company. First Aid Beauty (FAB) was founded in 2009! Their mission is to create simple yet effective skincare products that address common skin challenges. They seem to focus on textures, sensitive skin and long last products. It hasn’t even been 10 years but I think they are fulfilling their mission pretty well!

Their Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay will detoxify the skin and remove impurities. It also tightens pores, softens and improves skin texture and balances/controls oil production. It has a red gooey texture and doesn’t require too much in order to spread over the face. After about 20 minutes the mask will be dry enough to easily pull off.

My Experience

At first I was kind of scared of the texture of this product. It’s thick gooey texture grossed me out and I wasn’t sure exactly how much was needed to evenly spread out over my face. When you use too much, it takes forever to dry! If you use too little it doesn’t have much effect. After a couple tries I was better able to find the perfect amount for my skin and I really enjoyed the results. It definitely evens out your skin tone and tightens pores with only a couple uses!

I love the results of the Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay but sometimes the peel off is a little unsuccessful, especially if you don’t apply the right amount. I also find the red clay part to be extremely messy if you’re not careful. You might end up making your sink red! Also, this mask is a little expensive. At $30/bottle it’s not something that is worth purchasing often. I would maybe buy it once a year and use it 1~2 times a week depending on the need but considering the texture and messiness I tend not to use it that much.

Where to Purchase

This product can easily be found at Sephora! If you’re a Sephora addict like me, this is the best place to buy it for sure. Sometimes they will even offer free samples of the products if you would like to try before actually buying the full size (which I highly recommend).

FAB’s Skin Rescue Purifying Mask With Red Clay can also be found on their direct website. They offer free shipping on orders over $50 and if you sign up for their newsletter you can get 15% off.

Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

Review – Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque

Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing MasqueKiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque is one of my favorite Kiehl’s products. Kiehl’s is one of my favorite skin care brands from the United States! The company itself is over 165 years old so I would hope they know their stuff. Their products use many natural ingredients like Lavender, Squalane, Calendula, Caffeine and Vitamin C among others. They have a wide variety of products for all types of skin and even have a Men’s skin care line (which my husband loves).

Their Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque is:

  • Formulated with Amazonian White Clay to gently draw out oil, dirt and toxins that clog pores
  • The addition of Oatmeal and Aloe Vera helps to soothe

The overall rating on the Kiehl’s website is almost 5 hearts out of 5 with over 151 reviews. The cost is only $28 for 5 oz of mask. For me this is a pretty good deal, it’s lasted me for a few months already.

My Experience

This masque can last a long time if you use it sparingly. It’s very tempting to put a lot of the masque cream on your face at once but you really only need a little in order to cover your face completely. It takes about 15 min to dry or longer depending on how much you put on. Once it fully dries I found it very easy to wash off (in the shower) but it can get a bit messy if you’re not careful.

I found the masque to sting my face a little upon application but after removal my face was refreshed and looked nice and bright. My pores are also visibly reduced after one application which is great! I think it’s a great item to add to your skin care routine and considering the value I would definitely purchase it again.

Where to Purchase

Like all Kiehl’s products their main website or stores are great places to purchase or try out the products. Their rewards program is definitely worth joining if you’re a fan of Kiehl’s!

On the other hand, if you’re more of a Bloomingdale’s person, they also have this  Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Mask along with a wide range of Kiehl’s products.

Review – Naive Foaming Face Wash and Makeup Remover Peach

Credit: Amazon.comI’m sure most people haven’t heard of Kracie’s Naive Face Wash series! I like their face wash line a lot especially their foaming face wash and makeup removers. For a bit of background information Kracie is one of Japan’s major company’s that specialized in toiletries and cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food. They started out as a cotton trading company in 1887 and have expanded to many different areas since then! Their slogan is Kracie taisetsu na koto <for the important things in life>. I think a majority of their products are in the everyday lives of people in Japan and revolve around the small important things.

Their Naive series is mainly body wash, hand soap and face wash. Naive’s face wash line is surprisingly one of the best face washes I’ve used so far. Their face wash is made with 100% plant based washing ingredients and not only cleans the skin but also works to remove makeup. It has a thick foamy texture and a slight smell of peach (for this particular one).

My Experience

For the price of this face wash I think it’s a great value and works great. I don’t wear a lot of makeup but it cleans up nicely. (If you’re a heavy makeup user I think you may need to use an oil-based remover prior to using this facewash). As far as the texture, I love it! The thick creamy texture foams well when massaged into the face and along with the smell it’s really relaxing.

This fash was also does a pretty good job at moisturizing. It doesn’t dry out my skin and leaves my skin feeling soft and refreshed. It’s also really easy to use and works great for me as a gym face wash before heading home and before working out (when I wear makeup). If you’re looking for an alternative face wash to what you can find in the US, I highly recommend this product. Even on Amazon the price isn’t too expensive and it really works wonders for most people. I have already bought this product multiple times and would buy it again!

Where to Purchase

If you live in Japan, you can find this face wash at almost any drug store. If not, then Amazon has the peach version as well as the Aloe and Green Tea versions of the Naive Face Wash. The price differs based on the seller but generally the price is $7~$11. For face wash it’s not bad!

Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash

Review – Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash

Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face WashKiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash is one of Kiehl’s popular face wash products.

Their Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash is one of my top picks. According to the Kiehl’s website the details are below:

  • Gently lifts away impurities, dirt, and oil without stripping skin, safe for sensitive skin
  • Creamy gel formula activates with water to create a rich foam
  • Skin looks instantly refreshed and revitalized
  • Soap Free, Paraben Free

My Experience

As they claim, Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash does great to lift away impurities, dirt and oil without drying out the skin! It also words great on sensitive skin and I have yet to experience any type of irritation. I like the smell (though some people may not) and it definitely leaves my face refreshed and revitalized and ready for the next step of my skin care routine.

One thing that was kind of a turn off at first was the “foaming” part. I’m not a huge fan of gel face wash turning into foam because I felt like it took more time to prepare… but after using it, I fell in love with the results and have been trying to get the rest of my household to use it too.

When I purchased this face wash, I accidentally ordered the bigger bottle thinking it was going to be small. However, when it arrived it was HUGE. I guess I can’t connect 16.9 fl. oz. as a big size but it was definitely bigger than expected.  For facewash $45 is expensive! At least I thought so when I originally purchased it but after using it for 3 months I think it’s actually a great deal. I used to buy face wash monthly for around $7~10/bottle and yearly this adds up to over $100. At the rate I’m using the current fact wash I expect it to last about 6 months and yearly it would only be $90! Not a huge savings but it’s comparable to cheaper products but well worth the upfront price.

Where to purchase:

I recommend buying the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash directly from the Kiehl’s store or website. Their rewards program is pretty good (yearly depending on how much you spend you’ll get coupons and they also have sales a couple times a year) plus their customer service is great!

You can also purchase Kiehl’s products through Bloomingdale’s which may be preferred if you’re a loyalist member. The price is the same but you’ll receive points from Bloomingdale’s instead.

Lululun plus Aroma Oil Rose Facemask

Review – Lululun Rose Aroma Oil Mask

Lululun plus Aroma Oil Rose FacemaskI picked this mask up when I was visiting Loft for about 200 yen (or $2). I was looking to try a mask that was a little more expensive than the normal ones to spoil myself. This mask was a little thicker than the First Quality ones and had way more moisturizer than I was expecting. It’s my first time trying Japan’s famous Lululun sheet mask brand and I was looking forward to the results.

My Experience

This mask smelled a little too strongly for me after opening the package. I kind of guessed that it would irritate my skin a bit and indeed it did. The recommended amount to keep the mask on is for 10 min but if you have sensitive skin I don’t think you should keep it on so long (or in some cases use it at all). I can imagine that people who have asthma or other breathing weaknesses may find this mask a little tough to use.

Overall the mask did sting my skin but it didn’t irritate it to the point where my face turned red (or was burned). The after smell is really nice and my skin was super moisturized and dewy. Also, I was happy with the size! It was a little big but compared to other sheet masks I’ve tried it fits my small face a lot better. Though, at this point I wouldn’t buy this sheet mask again. If you like trying new things it may be worth trying but in my case I would rather stick with a sheet mask that isn’t so stimulating on my face.

Lulumon Rose Aroma Oil Mask

Where to Buy

Unfortunately, you can’t easily find this series of masks in the United States. Your best bet is to pick some up when you travel to Japan! You can find them at places like loft and Tokyuhands.

Their standard line of sheet masks is readily available on Amazon for a decent price (depending on the seller).

Review – Biore Perfect Oil

Image from Kao websiteBiore Perfect Oil is one of Biore’s most popular products in Japan. Biore’s parent company is the Japanese company Kao (translated to face). They were founded in 1887 with their original product being facial soap. Over the years the launched many new brands (one of them being Biore) and merged and acquired others. These include brands like Nivea, Jergens and John Freida. Kao as a company has been recognized as one of the world’s top 100 most ethical companies for the past 10 years! Their history is pretty interesting but I don’t want to digress too far.

Biore (in Japan) has a wide range of skin care products offered at very affordable prices. With my experience, these are overall great for sensitive skin and very affordable. In the United States, their line is pretty much limited to pore strips, masks and face washes.

According to their product description Biore Perfect Oil “effectively dissolves and removes stubborn makeup, including waterproof mascara, while lifting away dirt and impurities. Unlike other cleansing oils, it leaves no greasy film on your face and maintains the skin’s natural moisture balance.” Basically all you need to do is apply to face and rinse off with water and you’re good to go!

My Experience

Biore Perfect Oil is great for everyone who does the two step cleanse, especially for removing makeup. In my experience the small amount of makeup I wear is quickly and easily removed and doesn’t cause any irritation to my skin (which is fairly sensitive). Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I still use this oil cleanser as well before my main water based one.

The oil is fairly thin and smells kind of fruity which is relaxing when massaged into your face. After washing Biore Perfect Oil off, my skin doesn’t get oily at all. It washes off really well and leaves your face feeling clean and refreshed. It’s a good start to the 10-step Korean Skin Care routine and it’s very affordable which is a huge plus for me!

Overall, If I can find it easily (like while I’m living in Japan) I would definitely buy it again and again. When in the States, I will probably have to find something else to use but it’s definitely worth bringing back from Japan to keep in my skin care routine.

Where to buy

Luckily you can purchase this product in the states but unluckily it’s pretty expensive compared to the original price in Japan. While the original price is around $10 (1000 yen), when purchased from Amazon it’s about $15 ~ $18 depending on the seller. Considering most oil cleansers in the US are a bit expensive, I would say it’s a good alternative to the luxury brands.
